27 January Weekly Update

Thai-style lemongrass soup made from our own harvested lemongrass, and cilantro that we picked this week, is on the menu for tonight.

But the cilantro is the only stuff we got *this* week.  Of course we’re eating from our frozen and canned stores of food from the garden, including:  butter beans, haricots vert, creamed corn, sweet peppers, herbs and spices, and tomato sauce.  The stock for the soup tonight we made ourselves.

We had an inch or so of snow and sleet, and then another dusting of sleet in the past week. Most everything just sat under covers. Knowing the snow was coming, we picked the lettuces down hard last week, which is why we don’t have any to get this week.

Everything seems to be doing ok.  Even the parsley and dill under their covers haven’t been killed yet.

We still have hopes and expectations about the early pea crop we planted.  Only time will tell.  Until next week!

Your cilantro looks healthy and beautiful, bet it made the dish very tasty.

Oh to have some fresh cilantro to cook with at this time of year! It sounds like you had the garden all tucked up snug before the winter weather arrived – good preparation on your part and I am sure you will be rewarded with continued harvests once the weather moderates again.

Cilantro is my favorite. I had to break down and buy some this week. LOL. I had 3 tiny sprigs in the garden and that was NOT enough. Yours looks wonderful.
